When my mom had her bathroom remodeled, I decided to give her a few suggestions. She was having her tub removed and getting just a shower stall to replace it. She is getting older, and it was just too hard for her to get in and out of the tub. I suggested that she get a shower that has a bench in it as well as a hand shower. It was her neighbor doing the work as he is a handyman by trade, and he has extensive knowledge of plumbing, making him the most affordable option for this.
She asked me why she would need a bench as well as a hand held shower when her showers do not last that long. I explained that the bench would definitely come in handy if she is having a rough day and is tired, or even when she just wants to relax and shave her legs. It is a lot easier shaving legs when seated rather than having to reach down and doing it from a standing position. As for the hand shower, I explained that if she is sitting on the bench shower, the hand held shower is going to come in a lot more handy than what the regular shower head would.
I then explained that the one I had in mind for her has a really long hose, so it would reach her even if she leaned down to wash her feet off. I think what finally convinced her to go with this is because I told her that she would be able to use it to shower her dogs too. She loves her dogs, and that is what finally made her go with it. Now that she uses it, she told me that it was the best decision by far!
